David Elfstrom, P.Eng, LEED®AP, CEA, President & Sustainability Engineer
David’s focus is on designing and evaluating mechanical systems and energy performance of the building envelope with a passion for solar & geoexchange, as well as natural construction materials such as straw bale.
David Elfstrom
David, a 3rd generation Canadian engineer, graduated from Queen’s University in 1997. After nearly a decade of working in the field of medical physics, a concern of fossil fuel use spurred him to study building science and mechanical engineering. David has since completed a wide variety of college, university, and trades courses to obtain a healthy mix of theory and practice. He graduated in 2006 with the highest overall mark in the Sustainable Building Design and Construction program at Fleming College, during which he worked on the design and construction of the Kinark Sustainable Living Centre near Minden, Ontario. He is a qualified HRAI Residential Air Systems Design Technician and has full training from the Canadian GeoExchange Coalition in geothermal systems installation and design from residential through to large commercial geoexchange systems. David is also a Natural Resources Canada Certified Energy Advisor for the ecoENERGY Retrofit—Homes program.
David volunteers with the Canada Green Building Council on the LEED Canada for Homes committee, existing homes subcommittee, and LEED Canada for Homes technical advisory subcommittee, is a board member & officer of the Ontario Straw Bale Building Coalition, and a founding member of Post Carbon Toronto. He lives, eats and breathes ‘green’ in Toronto’s first geothermally-heated & cooled multi-unit residential building.
